Old Navy and JCPenney TV Commercial Music
This holiday season I’ve noticed a slew of commercials using very similar music. I’m thinking of Old Navy and JCPenney especially. These commercials usually have a lot of beautiful women lounging in sweaters, petting dogs, walking in the snow, etc. The music always has a female singer and is sparsely composed–usually just a guitar or piano. There are no baselines, no throbbing beat, just vulnerable folky warbling. That’s right up my alley. You Tube videos and music credits to come after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
PermalinkYour 16oz Maple and Sage? I don’t eat that, I’m not from The North.

Devoted Customer Upset Jimmy Dean Downsized Sausage 16oz To 12oz But Charges Same Price.
This is the greatest thing I’ve heard in awhile. This poor Texan just wants to feed his plump wife and 600lbs of men in his home. How could you Jimmy Dean?
PS. Those Jimmy Dean “Chocolate Chip Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick” are the nastiest thing I’ve ever seen. Chocolate and ground meat never go together.
PermalinkMichel Gondry
Michel Gondry (not “Michael Gondry”) is a French filmmaker know for his odd, dream-like style. His most recognizable work was probably the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which showcased his unique visual style. He’s also directed numerous music videos and commercials, many of which have the same style. I’ve always liked his work because of the way he manages to visually express the non-linear nature of dreams. Situations, settings, and people in dreams change abruptly and without logical structure. With blurred edges, a dream is not dominated by any real-world rules. This makes the effect Gondry achieves even more impressive. Like dreams, much of his work stays with you, subtlety gnawing at your subconscious.
Music Videos
The White Stripes - Fell in Love With a Girl
The Chemical Brothers - Let Forever Be
Radiohead - Knives Out
Gary Jules - Mad World
In closing, here is a short video of Mr. Gondry solving a Rubik’s Cube with his nose. I have no idea of the context for this clip, if there is any at all.
PermalinkI’m Moving to New York City
So, it’s finally happened. I’ve got a job and I’m moving to NYC. I’ve been talking about this for a long time and I can’t express how excited I am to finally be doing it.
The Job
I’ll be working for IAC in the awesome Frank Gehry designed building in Chelsea. My job title is “front end developer” and I start on December 10th.
The Move
My last day at my current job is December 5th, a Wednesday. That gives me just four days to pack up in Rochester, move everything I own into storage, and show up for my first day of work the following Monday. I had once planned to take some time off but that is not going to happen even a little bit.

The Building
One of the coolest things about my new job will be working in the Frank Gehry designed IAC building. It’s been written about in a few places and is the subject of many pictures. For more coolness check out the building’s web site. How many buildings have their own web sites?
The Future
Since my day-to-day life is about to change drastically, AllMyLiesAreWishes is going to change as well. I’ll be using this blog to post random cool things I find and talk about restaurants and TV like always but I’ll also be chronicling all my fun adventures in the city. Stay tuned. I’ve got some cool stuff in the works.
PermalinkBalls on Your Desk
via Fresh Arrival
These magnetic balls are meant to hold business cards, pictures, or anything else on your desk that you’d like to display in a fresh-to-death way. They’re also good for hours of fun–pull them apart and watch them slam back together. How cool. Watch the following video to see just how cool it gets.
